How can I improve my slow VNC connection? ("I'm receiving slow performance")

There are a few settings that can be modified in the VNC Viewer and VNC Server to help the situation.
From within the VNC Server properties there are a few desktop optimisation settings you could try changing:
  • Remove desktop background
  • Disable user interface
  • Optimise screen capture (mirror driver)
From within the VNC Viewer there are display options that can be manipulated:
  •  Adapt to network speed
  •  Always use best available color quality
You can also try setting the Relativeptr paramer to True under the expert settings.

Find out the speed of the connection:

The connection speed is displayed within the information on the VNC Viewer remote screen.  For a more accurate idea of the speed and quality of the connection, try pinging the ip address of the vnc viewer from the vnc server computer.

From a windows based system:

Start > Run > cmd

ping x.x.x.x where x.x.x.x is the ip address of the VNC Viewer computer.

Please be aware that connections over a wireless network will be slower and less stable than an ethernet connection. Likewise connections over the Internet will be slower than those over the local LAN.
