Can I start VNC Server in User Mode automatically when I log in?
This article applies to the following product(s):VNC
VNC Enterprise Edition
You can run VNC Server in User Mode when you log in. You can usually run any X application at startup by adding it to the "display manager" configuration. If it's using GDM there should be a directory /etc/X11/gdm/Init containing a file called ":0" or "Default"
(which may be a symlink to /etc/X11/xdm/Xsetup_0), to which you can add a line such as:
/usr/bin/vncserver-x11 & (VNC)
or:
/usr/bin/x0vncserver & (VNC Enterprise Edition)
However, some versions of GDM will kill any X application which has a window when someone logs in. This means the best you can do is to add a line to one of the other GDM files (PreSession/Default) to start another instance of VNC Server in User Mode when someone logs in.
The user will be kicked off but will then be able to connect in again.
