Can I install VNC Server without root permissions/access?

Yes, you can install VNC without root by using the tarball download rather than the RPM. Unpack the download and run the vncinstall script as follows:

  vncinstall

should be a directory on your PATH to which you have write permission. You'll then need to install a license key to the same directory as follows:

  vnclicense -licensefile=/licensekey -add

You will then be able to use the vncserver, Xvnc or x0vncserver commands. You won't be able to use the vnc.so module without root permissions, and you won't be able to authenticate as any user other than yourself using UNIX password authentication. All other features will work normally.
